If a neighbor sent you
The simplest way to reach us is through the volunteer who mentioned us to you. They know how the training season works, they know their mentors, and they can make an introduction at the next gathering. This is how almost every current walker joined.
If you've read the annual summary at the harbor bulletin and it stirred something, speak to whichever of us you know. One of us likely knows you.
If you're with a school or community group
For a Foreshore Schoolroom visit in May or September, the easiest path is through the regional schools liaison, who rotates among our trust each year. Teachers already in our rotation can pass your name along. We generally fill the year's visits by late winter.
2025 Schoolroom weekends are now full. We open the 2026 rotation in February.
If you have observations to share
Casual sightings — an unusual bird, a bloom of something you can't name, a drift of dead shellfish — are welcome and useful. Please mention them to any walker at the harbor bulletin or at the annual spring open-walk, where we gather for introductions, questions, and a slow lap of Willet's Cove.
If it looks like something that shouldn't wait (an oil sheen, a fish kill, a stranded marine mammal), ring the harbormaster's office and ask them to raise it with the on-call coordinator.
If you're press, or writing about the coast
We are glad the estuary is getting attention and we'd rather you talked to a named walker than a nameless trust. Mei-Lin and Arjun share that role in alternating years. Ask after them through the harbormaster or through any current walker and we'll find time.
The open-walk
Our one public gathering of the year. This is the front door.
Spring open-walk
First Saturday after the April spring tide.
Willet's Cove, low water. All neighbors welcome. No signup; just turn up in boots you don't mind getting wet. We gather at the reference boulder, say hello, walk the cove, and answer what we can.
If you'd like to volunteer for the coming season, this is the gathering to come to. We make introductions on the walk and match trainees to mentors in the weeks after.
Status
Currently in season.
Tidepool and Shorebird programs both active through October. Marsh Transects — autumn walk was on the last weekend of September and is now logged in binder #17. The doorway for 2027 walkers is the first Saturday after the April spring tide; bring wet-boots and a neighbor.
